Thank goodness the National Association for Gun Rights was not carrying a real weapon when they pulled the political trigger last week. Except for the fact that it was premediated, this would be a deadly incident of “Friendly Fire,” and as all of our military and veterans know, on the battlefield there is nothing “friendly” about it.
There are few places in America which can truly be called “sacred ground.” Our battlefields where the brave have fallen are truly sacred ground. Our local and national cemeteries, from Valley Forge through this very day, where we have buried our sons and daughters who “gave the last full measure of devotion” … this can truly be called sacred ground.
Let's get this straight. The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. does not give Americans the right to bear arms. The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. does not give Americans the right to protect themselves and their families from personal and political harm.

It is heart wrenching, and an ill comment upon the state of our nation this solemn day, that the vast majority of our people, young and old, do not know, nor do they care, that our Memorial Day has been set aside to remember and honor our sons and daughters who have given their lives in defense of our national union, in defense of the freedom of our country, under the blanket of which we sleep in warmth and comfort this very night.
